Kristina and her daughter, Jasmine, visited the shop to drop off some great projects I'm firing for the Cambria 4-H Club. Kristina, also a potter, is helping the kids make totems. So far, the bases are done. They're in the kiln as I type.
This Thanksgiving will mark the one-year anniversary of our official move to Cambria, a little town along the central coast of California. We had been back and forth from Bakersfield to Cambria for months (a 3-hour drive several times a week) as we made the transition. Though I still return for some work commitments and to visit with my awesome sister (HIYA SIS!), it's definitely different now and we feel like part of the town.
I'm so grateful to be a part of this community.

Wow, has one year gone by that fast, so great you're feeling part of your new community and can help out with the 4H, what a great project for the kids.
I hear that Cambria is a cool artists town(?) Is there a nice/diverse group of artists in the community or a thriving arts council etc.?
I have a great blog posting on a totem project I did with Wesley's 10th grade class. The kids were so creative, they really made me look good :)
happy anniversary!
WoW...you must be a really hot artist and have a wonderful decorator for the new look of the shop : )
Hi Linda and Jim - Thanks for the anniversary congrats. It's amazing how fast the year has gone. At the same time, sooooo much has changed in my life. For the better. Yeah!
Hey Tracey - I remember the post about totems that you did! I actually mentioned it to Kristina, the 4-H mom who is leading the project. Your students did an amazing job, and their teacher is/was an inspiration!
Hi Cindy - Yes, Cambria is an artists colony. Right now, the arts organizations are having a renaissance and it comes at a time when it's especially important to support artists. The network is getting stronger and more people are becoming involved from throughout the community.
I'm also lucky to have my studio neighbors. We visit with one another throughout the day and send customers back and forth. Makes for a fun day, even when the glaze load turns out yucky or nobody buys anything... at least there is someone to share the misery with!
Hey Mark, my fabulous decorator!
I AM a really hot artist and YOU ARE a wonderful decorator. And, a wonderful friend. THANK YOU!... Are you even reading this?
