Growth spurt

(Mugs in progress... Ready to load for bisque firing.)

Sticking with the same series throughout the fall/winter is making a difference in the quality and quantity of my work. With each cycle of work in this "Endangered Series," I'm discovering little enhancements that result in better pieces.

While it's encouraging that studio visitors are attracted to the finished pieces and they're selling well, it's even more encouraging that I'm attracted to the finished work! In the past, my usual feeling about my work would be initial excitement, followed by idea-chasing, followed by a little let-down when the pieces are not as envisioned upon kiln-opening.

However, current kiln-openings are different - in a good way. Much less likely to result in let-down and more likely to propel me happily into making little changes to improve or enhance an elements.

And that seems like progress!

Sure, makes sense. Narrowing down your focus is good, especially since your customers are responding too!! Double prizes :o)

I always wondered before I started working in clay why some artists had only one or two particular glazes and now I know, it does make sense to be able to perfect technique and glazes.
