Patricia Griffin - Woodcut Series - Falling Leaves Platter
This new series of work features swirls of leaves amid color blocks of orange, golden yellow and black.  It was introduced just in time for Open Studios Art Tour in October, as the weather started changing from late summer to early fall.

Each piece is made by hand, stamped with leaves and then etched with pattern – creating swirls of movement around the leaves.

I have only to step outside the back door of my studio to see the signs of changing seasons. While we don't get dramatic swings of weather here, it's enough to create a bit of excitement. I find this time of year especially enjoyable – no huge holidays in the next few weeks. It's a little rest after summer's end and the holiday season is upon us.

Other news:

Open Studios Art Tour was a great success! Thank you to everyone who visited. I had so much fun talking with visitors and sharing my studio and process.

I had a big increase in traffic and sales, both way up from previous years. Organizers for the county-wide art tour did a wonderful job with promotion. We also formed a local coalition of participating potters to do a "Cambria Pottery Trail" at the same time. The cross-promotion led many new visitors to my studio gallery.

Holiday Events: The next big event here at the studio will be the month-long series of events in December for "Holidays in the Pines." It kicks off with Hospitality Night on Thursday, Dec. 6. Merchants throughout the town stay open late that night and everybody offers treats. The locals come out in force as the free trolley takes visitors up and down Main Street. A social time, as well as a shopping spree, it's an opportunity to visit Cambria's shops and galleries in a festive and friendly atmosphere... A great way to kick off the holiday season!

Please note: Studio gallery will be closed Friday-Thursday, Oct. 26-31, 2012.
